HKUST welcomes the approval by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government to establish two new research centres under SEAM@InnoHK, the third InnoHK research platform — one on renewable energy and storage, one on power semiconductors and related applications.
Both centres align with the sustainability directions set out in the national 15th Five-Year Plan, advancing technology development and application in green transition and advanced manufacturing.
Hong Kong Power Semiconductor Chip and Application R&D Centre (PowerSAC)
The centre is directed by Prof. Jing CHEN, Chair Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering. PowerSAC advances next-generation wide-bandgap semiconductor technology, covering advanced power devices, integrated circuits and high-efficiency power conversion for high-load applications such as AI data centres.
The centre collaborates closely with local partners including City University of Hong Kong, the PolyU Electric Vehicle Research Centre and the Microelectronics Research Institute, as well as leading universities and industry partners across North America, Europe and Asia — including EPFL, Nagoya University, the University of Toronto, Peking University and Tsinghua University.
About SEAM@InnoHK
Announced by the Innovation and Technology Commission in March 2025, SEAM@InnoHK focuses on sustainability, energy, advanced manufacturing and materials, with the aim of establishing Hong Kong as a global research collaboration hub.
